What a weird thing to say.
But wait, there’s method to this madness…
If you’ve been to a Rope Rage training session, you might have heard me say something along the lines of:
“I dare you to whip yourself.
"You have to get your head around the fact that the rope will hit you. It will hurt for a few seconds, but then it will be over.
"When you adopt this mindset, you’re free to really unlock your potential.”
This is one of the mental hurdles to overcome, so the best thing to do is not to rush but just to allow for time to do its work.
With time, the mind adjusts and becomes more comfortable with the rope. This will result in a more relaxed, effortless rhythm with the rope.
It’s all in the investment of time, all in the repetition.
So, I’ll wrap this one up with a comic strip I was sent earlier this week, and although it’s obviously a joke, I think it pretty much sums up that frustrating aspect of learning jump rope techniques:

When the rope “slaps” you, it hurts.
Don’t allow that to overpower you, though. Assess what went wrong, adjust, and go try again with full commitment.
I dare you to whip yourself; see where it takes you.
