This blog will be constantly updated with videos and tips for how to get the most out of your training with a speed rope.
There are jump ropes (or "skipping ropes"), and there are speed ropes.
They're often confused as the same thing, but that's untrue for a number of reasons.
So, what's the main difference?
Speed ropes are made of intertwined strands of metal with a plastic or rubber coating, and regular jump ropes are made of plastic or sometimes plastic beads.
So, speed ropes move through the air smoother than all other ropes, allowing you to achieve higher speeds (and get that incredible ‘hissing’ sound as the rope slices through the air).
Another advantage is that there is more variation in density (i.e., weight) of the ropes, meaning you can get a tougher workout with a heavy rope, or a rip-roaring speed workout with a very light rope that will slice through the air.
But with great speed, comes great... responsibility(?).
Read on for the best tips to get the most out of using your speed rope.
1 - Protect Your Rope from Damage
All ropes wear down over time due to constant friction. It's science. With higher speeds comes more friction, so a speed rope can wear down quickly when used on rough surfaces. It's the main downside of using speed ropes. Thankfully, with a Rage Rope, you get a free protective 'rope guard' so you can protect it from damage when using it on rough surfaces (e.g., concrete) — this will extend the lifespan of your Rage Rope. Here's a quick step-by-step video showing exactly how to apply a rope guard to your rope to protect it from friction damage:
2 - Adjust it to Your Size
Speed ropes often have a mechanism that joins the handle to the rope, so that it can be adjusted. This is great for tweaking the length of the rope as you progress on your journey — a shorter rope is a faster rope, with less room for error! Many adjustment mechanisms require tools to unlock them to allow you to make adjustments. The Rage Rope has a 'limitless adjustment' mechanism that allows you to adjust your rope at the push of a button, so you can effortlessly get your ideal rope length.

3 - Store Your Rope to Extend its Lifespan
When jump ropes get tired, they tend to snap or break. When speed ropes get tired, they tend to kink and get bent out of shape. It's a key difference! So you have to treat them differently You can get much, much more lifespan out of your rope if you store it properly. So, here's a quick video explaining the best way to store your rope:
4 - Now Use it.
It's extremely easy to try something for a little while, then lose interest when we're not seeing obvious progress, and fall off. But the fact that progress isn't "obvious" doesn't mean there's no progress.
Muscle memory develops with consistency, and even if you just get a quick session
you'll have done great work to get those brain neurons firing and cementing that skill. You have a special piece of training equipment at your disposal—use it.
